10/23/09 Information

Hi Web 1 students
  • I created this blog last spring for my webbies to view as an example
  • Today you will be creating a new blog for Web1 class
  • For this reason make sure you include in the title and url your last name and web1 in some way. My example has followed these instructions.
  • Make sure anything else you add is appropriate
  • This will be shared with other people
  • Screen resolutions of 1024 are best for "blogger". You may change the resolution of your computer to make this activity easier.
  • Please reset at the end of the period
  • Work together to figure out the following. These items are also on my website
  1. Template must be from same "familiy" as my example
  2. Create 2 or 3 posts
  3. Make sure all your text is appropriate
  4. Add a "link list" (I have an example... see upper right hand corner)
  5. Link to your "Google Site"
  6. Add a link to Sprague Home (http://sprague.salkeiz.k12.or.us)

My Updates

Hi Web1 Students
This post is an example of what I want you to do to help me evaluate your progress on editing your blog. Below is a list of items I have changed on my blog. Please follow this model so I can quickly evaluate what you have done.

My Changes:
  • Increased the entire wrapper to 720px
  • Increased width on main-wrapper to 525px
  • Reduced the side-wrapper to 170px
  • Changed the background color to #f6f7e5
  • Added border-left:2px solid black; to the sidebar
  • Tried to remove the borders on "followers" without success
  • I "cheated" and changed the color to #f6f7e5 to make it disappear
Ideas for more:
  • Add an image to my header
  • I will need to find one I like and edit it
  • It will need to "fit" in the header area

View the source of this page to find out how I made the bulleted list. It isn't very difficult to do and will get you thinking about html code!

While you are viewing the source, take note how the bolding was done. Bolding is a "point and click" option and watching how the code is created is a great way to learn.

HTML editing...

Hello   Web 1   Students
The purpose for this blog will be to get into the coding of your blog and personalize it to your liking. This will serve as a great way to begin our Web Design unit. The coding used in these blog templates is similar to what is taught in the Web 1 and Web 2 classes.

Make sure you have selected a template in the same "family" that I have chosen here. If you didn't, you can easily go back and change it. It is simple and can be done at any time.

The template is from
Douglas Bowman "Minima Dark, Blue or Ochre"

Any one of the 4 will serve our needs well.
